What can I use as a substitute for quarter of a cup of vegetable oil (for brownies)?

Can I use butter instead/ How much/?What can I use as a substitute for quarter of a cup of vegetable oil (for brownies)?
HECK! The oil is already a substitute for butter in the first place. The best brownies and most other baked goods use butter. Americans got into this cheap and creepy business of using margerine and other crap because of nasty advertising by the big food Corps...

Butter is better! What can I use as a substitute for quarter of a cup of vegetable oil (for brownies)?
You can use butter or margarine instead , just melt it first and slightly cool before adding if it calls for 1/4 cup of oil then use 1/4 cup butter, melted . Do not use diet or whipped .. Also you can use 3/4 cup sour cream and 1 tablespoon water for the oil and water.
You can use equal amounts of butter or use applesauce.
You should be able to use butter instead. I would use the same amount of butter as you would vegetable oil. Just melt it first.
I always use applesauce instead of oil. I can't say for sure how anything else would work, as that's all I've ever used.
