it will kill the adults but not the eggs. slather it on and put a shower cap on overnight and they will suffocate. COmb out. Do this every day until you no longer see moving lice or eggs and then another couple days after that. Don't forget to treat the bedding. I recommend that you buy the lice spray at least and spray all of the bedding and carpeting around the bedding in addition to any furniture the person may have come into contact with. Then cover the mattress and the pillows in the vinyl zip covers you can buy for like $4 at wal-mart and protect it from re-infestation. The shampoo is really the best option but if all you have is shortening then go with what you can afford. just make sure you invest in a really good nit comb to assure you are getting all of the eggs. You must start at the root and comb the full length of the hair or you will just be moving the eggs around. The shortening will also make combing her hair out a lot easier whereas the nit remover gels often make it a tangled mess which is painful for the child.

no, they will survive. Use dawn dish washing liquid, or better yet a cat shampoo that kills fleas ticks and lice. That is a cheap method that does work.
I don't think that works. You should try tea tree oil if you don't want to go with the conventional over the counter stuff.
If you leave it in the hair over night and continue to soak the hair in oil every night for at least two weeks they will not be able to breathe and they will die.
user proper shampoo vegetable oil will work but not 100% effective . use the shampoo
