Can you run a 1994 BMW 525 Turbo Diesel on pure vegetable oil?

please can any one tell me if i can run my can on vegetable oil Not bidiesel.

please my theory is mix vegetable oil wth acetone simply to make it thinner and lower emissions and evaportion and put it in to my car tank 1994 BMW 525 Turbo Diesel

will it work please help

thank you MaxCan you run a 1994 BMW 525 Turbo Diesel on pure vegetable oil?
NO!Can you run a 1994 BMW 525 Turbo Diesel on pure vegetable oil?
I'm guessing it's going to need some money spent on conversion. I doubt anything like that can go into the tank, and it will just work.
I'm clear on whether or not this will screw up a diesel engine but I do know that you can use pure vegetable oil as fuel without converting anything.
Yes you car run SVO strait vegetable oil, on your car. You WILL have to make a secondary fuel system thoug. When you start the car it will have to start on diesel, then you can run the SVO, It works best if you heat it. then you will have to run diesel for a few minutes before you shut the engine down. if you don't run it like this the svo will gum up your injectors, pump, filter, lines etc... Its Much easier/safer to just make the bio-diesel. its fairly easy to.
it will not work with vegetable oil alone.unless u change injector nozzles and fit a heater. There is no room to do this in your car trunk.Further u have to start with diesel and then run veg.oil and again flush the line b4 stopping the car.

Is not feasible and not recommended coz you will have to modify many things.Lastly may damage your engine..You can try if the authroities in your area allow and secondly u have money to get another engine later.Best advise is avoid it.

I can suggest you to blend the veg.oil 20percent with 80 percent diesel. But bear in mind the your engine will not like it.

Your car is BMW,not other diesel engines.

To experiment your idea get a cheap diesel engine of same HP and try it out.It will get choked without heaters.

only way it works with blending.

For diesel engines, anything above 350HP can run on blended oil.that must be 200 seconds.Anything more u have to flush the line after use.

Hope u got what am saying.

  • Is there any relation between concentration of vegetable oil in water and COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand) of water

I am performing a filtration experiment using some filter media where i need to find the upstream and downstream concentrations of oil in water. So, I was wondering if COD content of water sample can indicate the respective oil concentration in that sample. Is there any relation between concentration of vegetable oil in water and COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand) of water
As mentioned above, disolved/suspended oil, of any kind will contribute to COD. Lil oil = lots COD. in a pure solution (i.e just oil and water) the correlation will be very good. However in a true waste water stream, your results will not correlate as well -- esp if the nature of the oil can change.

If you desire to determine the amount oil in water, use the EPA oil and grease method - either solid phase extraction (lots of money in setup) or hexane extraction in a sep funnel (cheap but more work). The recovery of vegetable oil - like corn oil - in this procedure is darn near 100%, with about a 2 PPM lower limit for a 1 liter sample. Need a scale measure at least to 1mg resolution, hexane, and an extraction flask. Is there any relation between concentration of vegetable oil in water and COD(Chemical Oxygen Demand) of water
there won't be enough to extract. think of what you're trying to do. unless there are surfactants aplenty in the water oil won't mix with the water, so you can filter than use a separatory funnel to allow the layers to settle out so you can separate them. if there's surfactants in the water good luck on extracting the oil cuz you're gonna have to break open the micelles and that will take time and energy.

COD is from lots of stuff and ammount of oil in water could change the number. set up a scale of samples you made yourself to see if there is a relationship, and you can apply this to the sample you'll take
Yes, but other organic matter would have a COD also. You could extract the oil with chloroform or some other solvent.

If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, then what is baby oil made from?

    Asian babies.
    Babies.
Mineral oil with added fragrance is marketed as baby oil in the US, UK and Canada

Mineral oil or liquid petroleum is a by-product in the distillation of petroleum to produce gasoline and other petroleum based products from crude oil. It is a transparent, colorless oil composed mainly of alkanes (typically 15 to 40 carbons)[1] and cyclic paraffins, related to white petrolatum. It has a density of around 0.8 g/cm3.[2] Mineral oil is a substance of relatively low value, and it is produced in very large quantities. Mineral oil is available in light and heavy grades, and can often be found in drug stores.

There are three basic classes of mineral oils:

    paraffinic oils, based on n-alkanes

    naphthenic oils, based on cycloalkanes

aromatic oils, based on aromatic hydrocarbons (not to confuse with essential oils)

The broad range of applications for mineral oil has resulted in an equally expansive list of application-specific names and trade brands. Other names for mineral oil include:

    Adepsine oil

    Albolene

    Cable oil

    Baby Oil

    Drakeol

    Electrical Insulating Oil

    Heat-treating oil

    Hydraulic oil

Well baby oil isnt made of babies but im sure tat its made of certain herbs which help babies grow, like neem, tulsi, aloe vera etc.
A serious answer to your joke question, Baby Oil is mineral oil with perfume added. It comes from minerals - rocks.

I resently watched Dirtiest Jobs with Mike Rowe on tv. They made bio deasil out of used vegetable oil.?

Has anyone ever used this with a deasil vw.I resently watched Dirtiest Jobs with Mike Rowe on tv. They made bio deasil out of used vegetable oil.?
Most people that I know do not use straight biodiesel. They blend it 60/40 50/50 with regular diesel. Any diesel engine should be able to use it.I resently watched Dirtiest Jobs with Mike Rowe on tv. They made bio deasil out of used vegetable oil.?
It's not in use here (Nebraska) unless it's mixed. Bean oil is more commonly used in Bio than waste cooking oil. The refining process for the cooking oil is more extensive than with the bean oil and the availability is much lower.

Cooking oil is more likely to have residual animal fats along with saturated fats than bean oil. Consequently the cost is bound to be prohibitive.

I wonder how a vegetarian would view this. Is it OK to burn animal fats in your diesel rather than eat animal protein. Just something to think about.
There is absolutely no risk in using biodiesel with an engine. The only thing that can possibly happen is that if you have rubber fuel lines (most pre-1996 cars) or injector pump seals, the methanol in the biodiesel can eat them away. The engine itself will remain 100% functional. There are methanol proof replacements readily available. Real B100 is vegetable oil that has been treated with chemicals to remain thin and with low viscosity but with the chemicals recovered for later use, but most B100 or B99 is actually closer to B77, the 23% or so being methanol or petroleum. The original diesel engine, as well as every other diesel built on that principle since, will run perfectly fine on vegetable oil or vegetable based fuel. In fact, that petroleum stuff they sell at gas stations and call ';diesel'; is the real alternative. Peanut oil is true diesel.
I have burned one full tank of B99 bio-diesel (that's 1% petroleum diesel and 99% vegetable oil) in my 2001 VW TDI. The motor fuel taxes were paid by the distributor on what I bought. My understanding is the veggie based fuel has stronger detergent action than petrol based fuel so you run the risk of your fuel system ingesting caked on deposits of whatever nasties might be deposited in your fuel tank, lines, filter and pump. My car ran just fine and no, it didn't smell like french fries!

Producing fuel from veggie oils requires removing the glyceryn compounds and I believe edible oil refineries use methanol for that purpose. The resulting hydrocarbon mix is fine as a fuel but lacks lubricity additives for wear resistance. Like petrol diesel fuels, those additives are added after the refining process is complete.

It is possible to burn straight veggie oil as fuel. These oils however have higher gel temperatures and thus may need to be heated in order to pass through the fuel system. Several entrepreneurs out in alternative fuel land supply conversion kits for diesel cars wanting to use straight veggie oil. They simply rout engine coolant lines to a heat exchanger in the fuel tank so excess engine heat is used to warm the fuel.

Trying the B99 is one thing but even at $4.00 a gallon for petrol diesel fuel I'm not interested in risking damage to my precious car by continuing to use some alternative that is specifically mentioned as a no-no in my VW owners manual. And at the time I tried the B99 it was about 50 cents a gallon more expensive than standard #2 petrol diesel fuel.
Some of our customers have used it, but you need to be careful.

The oil needs to be well used so getting it clean enough for modern cars is difficult.

It also needs about a cap full of some kind of spirit mixed in to help it burn.

    I've seen white spirit used.

Another problem depending on where you live is that if you're caught evading fuel duty/tax you will be heavily fined
    There are quite a few discussions on this topic at www.tdiclub.com I own a VW diesel, but never have used biodiesel. I am not going to risk it, nor pay more to be ';green';

    Shortening vs. Vegetable Oil?

Can I substitute shortening for vegetable oil, if I melt it down?Shortening vs. Vegetable Oil?
It depends. If you're frying something, melted shortening will work. If you're baking a bread or cake, it will probably work if it is blended well in the batter or dough. If you're making a salad dressing on the other hand, you might find that as it cools to room temperature you will have lumps of congealed fat in your salad!Shortening vs. Vegetable Oil?
What are you going to use it for baking then that would be OK because I have done that in the pass when I had ran out of oil.
If your baking it is fine!! If you are frying something no...It will be to greasy!!!

Can u use olive oil for making cake cookies instead of vegetable oil?

we are making cookies out of cake mix and want to know if u can use olive oil instead of vegetable oil cause that is all we have. Can u use olive oil for making cake cookies instead of vegetable oil?
I wouldn't, Olive oil is strong. It's best in very zesty dishes, such as pesto or pasta. Make somebody run to the neighbors and borrow some. Can u use olive oil for making cake cookies instead of vegetable oil?
I'm sure that you could, however, I wouldn't recommend it. Olive oil doesn't have all the ';fat'; needed to keeps things together and the taste might be a little different than what you may be used to.
NO. Olive oil has a definite taste and makes terrible baked goods. You could substitute corn oil, canola, safflower, just about any oil other then olive peanut ir coconut oil for vegetable oil
it will have a different taste. i wouldn't use extra virgin olive oil, it has the strongest taste. i extra light olive oil, will have less of the taste.
yeah, probably, i usually just use any type of oil, like canola or corn or anything when i bake.

Yes, just use a mildly-flavored one, not a strong extra-virgin variety.
Sure you can, it probably wont change the flavour very much....

    Han
Olive oil is not suited for baking sweets...it will give it an off taste.

use butter or margarine in place of veg oil...mayo will work as well
no but u can use butter or magreine something like that ( i ment the spelling) he he

  • Why water flows faster than vegetable oil ?

Is there any relationship between the easiness of water flow and the intermolecular forces in water compared to those in vegetable oil ?Why water flows faster than vegetable oil ?
I think the main reason why water is less viscous than vegetable oil is because water has a lower molecular weight than vegetable oil.

The intermolecular forces between water molecules are stronger than the intermolecular forces between oil molecules which should cause water to be more viscous than oil. However, since water molecules are a lot smaller, it turns out that water is less viscous despite the intermolecular forces. Why water flows faster than vegetable oil ?
    water is thinner
Yes, the intermolecular forces between oil molecules are greater than water and make the liquid more viscous. The oil resists flow more than water.
    Water has a lower viscocity.
because oil has a higher consitancy...is thicker...so the atoms are not as loose as in water-%26gt; flows slower

I really want to get one of those vegetable oil cars for my birthday.?

Ive been doing some research on them and it seems like a really cool idea. But is it practical? It would be great to hear from someone who has actually converted it. I live in southern california and i really like the conversions they do at lovecraft biodeiselsl. But im wondering if its really going to help me save money on gas or if the whole thing is more trouble than its worth. Also would it be easier to keep my car(a 2001 vw bug) and change the engine to deisel then convert it or should i sell my car, by an older deisel mercedes and then convert that? I really wanna do this but i want to do it the best way.

ADVICE PLZI really want to get one of those vegetable oil cars for my birthday.?
Start with a diesel car first. Converting gas to Diesel is pointlessly expensive! Easier to just get a Diesel engined car.

AFTER you get your diesel car, use biodiesel which is converted waste/nut/vegetable oil. The properties of Biodiesel are better than regular diesel for component wear and emmissions. No conversion of the car is required!

Converting to straight waste oil is not good for newer cars as the straight oil wears the fuel injector pump down faster than regular diesel. there is also an additional tank to be installed and much more plumbing involved...see my links!!I really want to get one of those vegetable oil cars for my birthday.?
Thats not true you can get waste oil for free, and there are new ways to convert a car. You end up saveing money. Report Abuse

i think you would pay more for the veg-oil than the gas. it's nice you care about the environment. but i think there more trouble than its worth. unless you are SERIOUSLY into the environment, i would do it.
buy a hummer! its what im doing!
used vegetable oil and all the other ingredients you need.

After buying all the barrels, lines and other supplies.

It will cost about 75 cents a gallon to make your own. This can be done in a 6X10 shed, easily in California.

    Does vegetable oil kill lice?

does vegetable oil kill lice.help me quick!!Does vegetable oil kill lice?
Olive oil, vegetable oil or conditioner applied to the child's head is a popular alternative treatment to get rid of head lice. Mayonnaise is also a popular choice. The oil or cream if applied and left overnight, covered with a shower cap, suffocates the lice. These can be removed by combing the hair with a lice comb.:)Does vegetable oil kill lice?
it will kill the adults but not the eggs. slather it on and put a shower cap on overnight and they will suffocate. COmb out. Do this every day until you no longer see moving lice or eggs and then another couple days after that. Don't forget to treat the bedding. I recommend that you buy the lice spray at least and spray all of the bedding and carpeting around the bedding in addition to any furniture the person may have come into contact with. Then cover the mattress and the pillows in the vinyl zip covers you can buy for like $4 at wal-mart and protect it from re-infestation. The shampoo is really the best option but if all you have is shortening then go with what you can afford. just make sure you invest in a really good nit comb to assure you are getting all of the eggs. You must start at the root and comb the full length of the hair or you will just be moving the eggs around. The shortening will also make combing her hair out a lot easier whereas the nit remover gels often make it a tangled mess which is painful for the child.
no it will not,, and it sure doesn't kill the eggs,, which would soon hatch and make more lice anyway!!! use the proper treatments!!!
no, they will survive. Use dawn dish washing liquid, or better yet a cat shampoo that kills fleas ticks and lice. That is a cheap method that does work.
I don't think that works. You should try tea tree oil if you don't want to go with the conventional over the counter stuff.
If you leave it in the hair over night and continue to soak the hair in oil every night for at least two weeks they will not be able to breathe and they will die.
user proper shampoo vegetable oil will work but not 100% effective . use the shampoo

I've had this problem before. What I did was melt down the shortening to a liquid and then measure that. Everything turned out fine.

Also, if you have applesauce, you can use the same measurement for that and replace the oil altogether. It tastes the same and makes for a lower fat brownie. When baking brownies, is it okay to use vegetable shortening instead of veg. oil, I am all out of oil?
You could use margarine or butter also - just melt to measure.
    i think so.
If I'm out of oil, I melt the shortening in the microwave, then measure it out and use it like that. It works okay.
Yes, it's perfectly okay to use vegetable shortening, but reduce the liquids in your brownies by the amount of oil you didn't put in.
I would think it would be okay. Use crisco if you have it... melt it though.
just melt the shortening. Everything will be fine.

What % of clean vegetable oil can i mix with diesel without causing damage to he engine?

Oil is dripped to measure how thick it is. Veggie oil is usually quite thick - unless you're using extra - virgin olive oil! I used to work on a heating system and the oil was that thick it was like sludge so it was thinned by heating with a sort of immersion heater - and it burnt like a jet engine - once we got it to start - it was starting it that could be a problem! What % of clean vegetable oil can i mix with diesel without causing damage to he engine?
I think it is just veg oil from the bottle....though im sure its illegal!!!!What % of clean vegetable oil can i mix with diesel without causing damage to he engine?
Unless you have a properly balanced mixture you will ruin your exhaust system and spue out loads of black soot, which is not at all environmentally friendly. Follow the car manufacturers advice, visit their website or contact their customer services.
Depends on system and ambient temperature. Ford for example Does not recommend any more than 3%
    100%
Depends on the engine. An older engine will tolerate much higher mixes than newer engines. A better way would be to convert the oil to biodiesel and then it can be mixed in any ratio up to 100%.
    Common-rail diesel engine? Probably 0%.

Direct injection? You can probably get away with 10 or 20% until the carbon formed wrecks the piston rings, that might take over 1000 hours of operation to happen. It will probably carbon up and block the injectors before that.

Indirect injection engine? (These have not been made for cars since the mid 1980s) you can run a lot more straight vegetable oil, but then you run into problems with the injection pumps. Can they handle the extra viscosity?

Bosch injector pumps are supposed to be able to do so, some others fall apart quickly. With lots of straight vegetable oil in your fuel you will have problems cold starting and even with indirect injection you may have carbon problems with the injectors.

You can run straight vegetable oil if you heat the fuel tank and the fuel lines, use a Bosch injector pump and possibly special injectors with an indirect injection engine, also a much bigger fuel filter to allow adequate amounts of the more viscous fuel to flow through.

You will need a second fuel tank for petroleum diesel fuel for cold starts, and you will have to switch from vegetable oil to petro-diesel before you stop the car to allow the diesel fuel to get through the lines if you anticipate a cold start after parking the car several hours.

If you saw the Mythbusters running a diesel Mercedes-Benz on straight vegetable oil remember that the vehicle was a carefully chosen mid 1980s model which they probably did not mention. The car used had a Bosch injector pump, which is said to be able to take the extra viscosity, it also had (I'm pretty sure) indirect injection.

YES! I use veg. oil in mine. And may I say they are delicious everytime. SO, go to the store, and get some veg. oil. Yummy, what time is breakfast? When I'm making pancakes can I substitute canola oil with vegetable oil or olive oil?
yes you can, but the olive oil will flavor the pancakes. I like the flavor but some people don't like it on their sweet stuff. You can also use melted butter and that gives a really rich taste. Most people like that flavor on their pancakes.
Olive oil may make pancakes taste funky. I just use PAM, or melted butter really makes them taste good. Canola oil would certainly work, and wouldn't flavor the pancakes, either.
You can for cooking purposes but they have different tastes. Personally i would prefer vegetable oil over olive oil for this.
Sure you can. Olive oil tends to be heavier, so maybe add a tsp of sugar to off set the oil flavor.
Yes you can but I prefer to use melted butter or margarine instead of oil. I think it has more flavor.
Melt some butter or shortening, use veggie oil but not olive oil, it's too heavy.
Yes, you can use any of those oils.

    Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil?

Can I substitute vegetable oil for olive oil when baking a cake?Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil?
Yes, you can substitute olive oil in baking BUT you should be using the ';extra light.'; This is not light as in calories but only in flavor. The stronger flavored olive oils would probably ruin the flavor of your delicate bakery.

My husband is on low cholesterol and I use the extra light olive oil regularly for everything from baking to frying eggs. You cannot tell that it's olive oil.Olive Oil or Vegetable Oil?
I wouldn't try it I don't think it would taste very good at all.
    Yes.
    YES
yes you can some say it tastes diffrent but add an extra pinch of sugar and its all the same (tastes it anyways)
no! it taste funny. olive oil is more versatile.
    yes
You can but in my experience it can give the cake a stronger, slightly rancid taste. Depends on the flavor of the cake I suppose.
If you want your cake to taste like olives! Olive oil has it's own unique flavor.
Sure. Next time you bake a cake, you can try this one. 7 Up pound cake. Also a fun site on cooking.
No way.......use olive oil for savory, not sweet.
    yes
Olive oil is not ideal for baking or cooking, unless a something like a stir fry. The problem with cooking with olive oil is that it is extremely sensitive to heat. If you are tryng to find a healthy alternative to regular vegetable oil, try canola.

At stores that sell pocket knives you will find an oil especially for them. Can you use baby oil, vegetable oil, olive oil ect. to lubricate swiss army knives?
Not if you value your knife.

Invest the money in a decent oil and you'll have a knife you can keep the rest of your life. Can you use baby oil, vegetable oil, olive oil ect. to lubricate swiss army knives?
no, the oil breaks down and gets gunky, use a good oil formulated for use with knives.
yes you can but you cant use too much or it will get dull

    i usaully use olive oil

Is vegetable oil good for my dog?

i have a pitbull and her coat is not that good the vet said to give her vegetable oil or some king of fish oil and then i went to this pet place and the lady said to give her vegetable oil too so vegetable oil good for her?Is vegetable oil good for my dog?
Vegetable oil would not be my choice. Fish oil is best. You should look for omega 3 and omega 6 oils. You should also be feeding your dog a good dog food. If you are feeding pedigree or kibbles and bits, nutro, purina, etc. You need to do some research and find a better diet for your dog.Is vegetable oil good for my dog?
I'd start first with what your feed her before you begin adding things to her diet. You should be avoiding grocery store brands (like Purina, Science Diet, Pedigree, Beneful, etc.) Choose a food with meat as the first ingredient, with no corn, wheat, soy or by-products as fillers. Check out this site for a complete analysis of most dog food brands. Where does your food rate? If it's not 4 or more stars, maybe it's time to switch. I can guarantee you'll get a healthier pet if you feed a better food. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com.

Some good brands to consider: Orijen, Wellness, Innova, Canidae, Merrieck's, Chicken Soup for the Dog Lover's Soul or Solid Gold.
olive oil in small amounts in her food like every other day , or you can use flax seed softgels and u stick with pin and squirt out on the food every day or give the whole pill if you want if dog is ok with pills , flax seed has omega 3,6,9 . Ive read the bottle i work in a drug store ,

I'm cooking and I don't have any vegetable oil, can Olive oil be a substitute for vegetable oil?

Yes, but only if you're not making dessert, as olive oil has a strong taste, and if you're not using very high heat, as olive oil loses some flavor in high heat. For more info, see http://www.oliveoilsource.com/cooking_ol鈥?/a>I'm cooking and I don't have any vegetable oil, can Olive oil be a substitute for vegetable oil?
Olive oil is more expensive, and it has an olive taste to it.

If you're using a lot of it, it might be worth it to run to the store and buy a bottle of vegetable oil. A pint of olive oil might cost $5, but the same amount of vegetable oil only costs $1.50. I would say if you're using more than a half a cup, then go get some veg. oil. If it's just a few teaspoons or tablespoons don't worry.

Olive oil also has an olive taste to it. If it's extra virgin or virgin, that taste will be strong. If it's light or extra light olive oil, then it will barely be there. (';Olive oil'; is in the middle, medium.) If you're making something like desserts, then the olive oil taste might come through.I'm cooking and I don't have any vegetable oil, can Olive oil be a substitute for vegetable oil?
It depends on what you are cooking.

If you are making a dessert, I would not substitute olive oil.

However; if you are cooking on the stovetop or making a salad dressing you can most definitely substitute olive oil.
Yes. Olive oil is better quality than vegetable oil and will taste better anyway.
It will add an olive taste so it will depend upon what you are making.
Sure but I think it will taste a small tad different but you never know try it

  • Is ther anything you can use to take place of vegetable oil?

i need to knowIs ther anything you can use to take place of vegetable oil?
Just use an equal amount of apple sauce. Works every time.Is ther anything you can use to take place of vegetable oil?
If you are making something like muffins, you can replace about one third of it with applesauce. Do not replace all of it as you need some of it for the recipe to work.
Yes, You can use olive oil. It's alot better for you. There are different types. There is light olive oil (doesn't have a very strong flavour, isn't any lighter on calories though!), extra virgin olive oil has been pressed many times I think and is very nice on salads etc(its a better quality/more expensive olive oil although its still affordable) or you can use just regular olive oil.

My Mum used to cook with vegetable oil but stopped because it is full of bad fats which is bad for your bad cholesterol levels and eyes (increases your chance of poor eyesight/going blind in the long term I think). Olive oil is the best type of oil. If you don't want a strong flavour coming through simply use light olive oil. Butter can be used for rich things or browning but it burns easily. Stop using margarine! It's got lots of trans fats and other animal fat etc. Butter is so much better for you in terms of your inside health plus it has about the same amount of calories. If you love margarine spread on bread etc, try to choose one like devondale brand (I live in Australia) which has about 75% butter. It spreads easily and is so much better for you in the long term.

    I hope this helps!
melt an equal amount of butter or margarine if you're out of oil

or you can often sub applesauce or baby food prunes i fyou're trying to cut fat.
it depends what do you need it for. There are such things you can use as canola oil, peanut oil, sesame seed oil, olive oil, lard, yes you have many things you can pick from even butter or margin it depends what you need it for. Just let me know and I'll tell you! Good luck!
    Peanut oil or olive oil.

I would like to know whats the best way to filter Waste Vegetable/Cooking oil to use as fuel for my diesel car?

I boil it and need the best filter medium to clean black waste oil from a chipper / restaurantI would like to know whats the best way to filter Waste Vegetable/Cooking oil to use as fuel for my diesel car?
You have to run it through a chemical process using catalysts and heat. You can't simply bung it in your car, however much you filter it.

Veggie oil can be too viscous (i.e. thick) to use properly, especially in cold weather and could bung up your engine.

Check these sites for more info.I would like to know whats the best way to filter Waste Vegetable/Cooking oil to use as fuel for my diesel car?
I don't know, but I will tell you my husband ran our car on waste oil for a few weeks and we drove around smelling like a chip van!

Canola oil instead of vegetable oil?

Hello, I don't know much about cooking.

I'm going to make brownies and vegetable oil is an ingredient.

Would it be the same to use canola oil? Is that okay?Canola oil instead of vegetable oil?
It's fine; whenever I bake something that asks for vegetable or canola oil, I always use olive oil because it's the only thing I have in my house.Canola oil instead of vegetable oil?
Yes, that will work for a cookie that is overpowered with one flavor like chocolate. Canola oil has a tendency to taste ';fishy'; so is not ideal for more delicately flavored cookies.
Should work OK - but I don't use canola for anything because I think it has a fishy taste. Supposedly that is only when it has been used at high temperature, but I can taste it all the time.
It's ABSO-POSITIVA-LUTELY no problem whatsoever! I do it all the time, and, as a bonus, canola oil is said to be a bit better for you than veggies oil!
    yes

I was making brownies and I used canola oil instead of vegetable oil and it tasted sooooooooo much better
Yes! It is perfectly fine to use canola oil instead of vegetable oil. I actually prefer it.
Yeah it is perfectly fine to interchange them.
Yes, but I like to use melted butter (not margarine). It adds a lot more flavor.
    yes!

Can i use butter instead of vegetable oil for my cake?

i dont have any vegetable oil and i really wanna make this cake tonightCan i use butter instead of vegetable oil for my cake?
Yes, butter will do and is a far better option as it gives a richer texture. Can i use butter instead of vegetable oil for my cake?
You need to melt the butter and let it cool enough to handle safely - do not warm it past the point where it froths. If you need to whisk it together with the eggs, make sure the butter is room temperature or less, or the eggs will cook on contact.
try using corn oil OR sunflower oil OR melted shortening OR applesauce.
    sure you can use it

Can you put vegetable oil on your compost heap?

Technically, anything that is organic will compost. However, the wonderful smell of vegetable oil might draw some unwanted animals to your compost bin, including rats and possums.

I personally will compost small amounts of vegetable oil, such as plant-based food that has been sauteed in oil, and I will put small amounts in the compost bin, but in large amounts it is definitely better elsewhere, unless you don't mind some ';visitors.';Can you put vegetable oil on your compost heap?
NO!!!!!!!!! It would end up a great sloppy mass by stopping the air getting in. the oil would take about 2 years at least to break down. DON'T DO IT!!!!!Can you put vegetable oil on your compost heap?
No it should be disposed of properly.
    Hiay

    No

I went to a Garden Colleg

    I got a NVQ 1 and 2
    !!!No!!!
no wouldnt chance it spoil your compost
put aside a separate water but - half fill it with water, and then put a layer of the vegetable oil on top.

Use it to put all of the pernicious weeds that you shouldn't put onto the compost heap cos it doesn't kill them

after three or four weeks, the weeds will be dead and you can put them onto the compost heap!
    doh
Put it on your wooden fence if you have got one.
no, the only things that go into a compost pile a biodegradable items, of which oil is not one.

Can you mix oil paints and vegetable oil and will it still dry properly?

ummm....yes, well...petroleum products are not actually part of fine oils. The pigments are ground in one or more of several seed oils that will catalize and harden when exposed to oxygen. Vegetable cooking oils will not harden with oxidation, but will merely become gummy. So...the upshot is....automotive lubricants and oil paints are unrelated (!!??) and you can't use crisco to paint with either.

  • Could anybody tell me the price per litre of vegetable oil in France, Spain, Morocco and Gambia?

Or does anybody know (even roughly) the price in any of these countries?Could anybody tell me the price per litre of vegetable oil in France, Spain, Morocco and Gambia?
What a strange question! In SOUTH AFRICA:

    1l sunflower oil (locally made) = 1/3 British Pound;

    1l canola oil (locally made, much more healthy) 1 British Pound;

    1l olive oil IMPORTED FROM SPAIN just under 6 British Pound;

1l olive oil IMPORTED FROM ITALY aproximately 9 British Pound.

We also grow olives in South Africa, and sport quite a few brand names Estate Olive Oil, in the region of 6 to 10 British Pounds.

However, if Gambia or Morocco produce their own olive oil I'll eat my shorts.

I've read vegetable oil lotion promotes free-radicals. Is this also true for olive + apricot vegetable oils?

olive olive oil and apricot oil have been used in cosmetics for a long time now and are supposed to be good for the skin. I don't know if this has anything to do with free radicals. I honestly don't think it would make much of a difference. If it did, I imagine the difference would be very minor and not necessarily negative.

Where does vegetable oil get its name?

while shopping for groceries yesterday i got to looking at all of the cooking oils. corn oil - made from corn, peanut oil - from peanuts, olive oil -from olives, canola oil -from canola, sunflower oil -from sunflowers, etc........

why is soy bean oil called ';vegetable oil';?Where does vegetable oil get its name?
In the U.S., the USDA Standard of Identity for a product labeled as vegetable oil specifies that only canola, safflower, sunflower, corn, soybean, or peanut oil may be used. Oils labeled vegetable oil may be, and often are, a mixture of two or more than these oils. Products not labeled vegetable oil do not have that restriction.Where does vegetable oil get its name?
because soy beans fall under the category of vegetables.

    .
just a more appetizing way to think of such an oil. some people would see soybean oil and think health food.

  • No name vegetable oil cooking spray. I bought this instead of Pam and when I try to push the spray nozzle,?

very small clumps of oil come out and then it stops altogether. I tried an different nozzle but that doesn't work either. How can I get this stuff out of the can?No name vegetable oil cooking spray. I bought this instead of Pam and when I try to push the spray nozzle,?
Sometimes if you run hot water over the nozzle and/or take a needle to the nozzle hole it helps. Shake it good too. Hope this helps. No name vegetable oil cooking spray. I bought this instead of Pam and when I try to push the spray nozzle,?
I bought a huge can of hair spray and it did the same thing. I ran it under hot water, I put a pin in it. I could not get it to work. I had to throw it out, because I bought it while on vacation 4 hours away from home.

Return it to the store, if you cannot get it to work and get your money back, unless you are rolling in money. lol
You could try using the hot water suggestion and then take a needle and insert it into the hole and if all fails return it to the place of purchase it may just be it won't work because of a manufacturing default. The clumping of the oil may be a wrong mixture at the factory.
Give it a vigorous shaking for about a minute and try again. Keep the can vertical, as that is the best way to use aerosols.

Failing that, soak the nozzle in boiling water for a minute or two, and the tip of the can.
Throw it out. Go get the real thing, it's well worth it.

Did you know a boat can run on vegetable oil.it runs on loch katrine?

this boat has been modified to sail on the loch running on vegetable oil only.as loch katrine supplies the city of glasgow with it's water supply they needed to use fuel that was biodegradable should the boat sink or be in an accident.maybe they could modify the engines to be used in cars and commercial motor vehicles.Did you know a boat can run on vegetable oil.it runs on loch katrine?
The technology to burn vegetable oil in a diesel has existed as long as the diesel engine. Otto's first diesel was powered by peanut oil. The only modification required to run on 100% bio diesel is that the vegetable oil is thicker than diesel and must be preheated to flow well enough to be used as fuel.

The biggest issue is the amount of vegetable oil that is available. Petroleum based diesel is in far greater supply and is still cheaper to produce that commercial bio diesel.

The changes that need to happen to the infrastructure concerning manufacture and distribution are yet to be developed. What we as citizens need to do is demand that bio diesel be made available to everyone as an alternative to petro diesel. I know, that I have to drive eighty miles to be B80 which is only 20% bio diesel. Supplies of straight vegetable oil such as used cooking oil, etc. are extremely limited and require filtering and some processing at home to use. We need to demand this product and be willing to pay a premium for it. Then our insatiable demands for petroleum will begin to diminish.Did you know a boat can run on vegetable oil.it runs on loch katrine?
Actually waste vegatable oil is not biodegradable if the boat sinks. It is about as toxic as regular oil in water. However the fumes are not toxic. I have spilled some on my grass, the grass will not grow back in that area. Report Abuse

I read of some guys in Wales running their cars on old Chip Shop oil and the only reason they got caught for tax evasion was because their exhaust was smelling of fish n chips!

Apparently if you add a small bit of Turpentine to vegetable oil it runs diesel engines just as good as diesel!
Any diesel engine will run on vegetable oil.
    Really? Wow!

People have been running diesel cars on vegetable oil for years.
Yep, any diesel engine can run on used, filtered, vegetable oil!

HELP! What can I use to free a mouse from a glue trap other than vegetable oil!?

I don't have any in the house. :/

%26amp; No, I did NOT set up the glue traps. My parents did...HELP! What can I use to free a mouse from a glue trap other than vegetable oil!?
Use oil only, any of the other items, polish remover, alcohol, will hurt the mouse. Use oil and a q-tip as one reader suggested.

After he is free, put him in a warm place outdoors with some bird seed, cereal, bread, crackers, etc and a small cap full of water then hope for the best.

As for the use of the extremely cruel Glue Trap. They should be banned. Talk to your parents about other alternatives for removing mice from your home like a live trap (which must be checked daily) or better yet, look for the access holes that the mice use and plug them with metal screen. (pipe holes, gaps in siding. etc.)

Good luck and thanks for trying to save the poor critter.HELP! What can I use to free a mouse from a glue trap other than vegetable oil!?
    ';And if you encounter an animal who is stuck to a glue trap, pour a small amount of cooking oil or baby oil onto the stuck areas and gently work the animal free.';

I'd suggest wearing thick leather gloves when dealing with agitated mice (or any mice at all really) because they can carry rabies and other diseases which can be very dangerous, and they bite hard!

Other things that may work to free the adhesive from them but shouldn't hurt them- Rubbing alcohol ( I use this to get sticky stuff off of electronics) or Nail polish remover (dissolves lots of things).

Again, be very very careful, and then tell your parents about humane traps (which I believe are also talked about on the peta page that I left a link for)

I've heard nail polish remover works well, maybe try pouring some slightly warm water on the trap outside, it might dissolve the glue enough to get the poor thing free.

Work quickly though, mice often break all their limbs from struggling so hard to get free, and if that happens it's just best to kill the poor thing rather then let it suffer.
Baby oil and a Q tip.

Has anyone used waste vegetable oil as diesel fuel?

we have used it on a test engine on our shop, after the oil was sent to the lab we had some crazy numbers come back. The oil was high in sodium-high enough to be corrosive.Has anyone used waste vegetable oil as diesel fuel?
There is a whole subculture of people who modify diesel engines to run on used vegetable oil. You can read about one drive across the US on vegetable oil at http://courses.fresno.edu/ken.martens.fr鈥?/a>Has anyone used waste vegetable oil as diesel fuel?
My son has ran his 81 Chevy Luv on McDiesel. You don't convert the vehicle you filter the oil. He said it worked the same as regular diesel except he got hungry for a Mac and fries. It takes special filtration equipment to make it work.
I thought there was some car that ran on the stuff, as it always smelled like french Fries

  • Help - peanut oil vs. vegetable oil?

I'm getting ready to make a cake and only have peanut oil and the box calls for vegetable oil......if I use peanut oil, is this okay? What is the difference in the recipe???? Thank you...Help - peanut oil vs. vegetable oil?
No, the peanut oil has a strong taste and the oil is too heavy for a cake.

Try substituting melted butter or margarine.Help - peanut oil vs. vegetable oil?
The cake will probably taste fine but you should be careful that you don't serve it to someone who has a nut allergy.
    Go ahead and use it.

It will taste a litle saltier but more interesting
Peanut oil will be fine there. It's nowhere near as strong-flavored as Olive oil. You just don't want to add any extra flavors from the oil.
peanut oil if better for you than vegetable oil it won't change the recipe
Your cake will taste decidedly nutty, but you don't need to change the proportions.

To minimize the taste, you can try going 1/2 butter 1/2 oil, though this will give a heavier texture to the cake.

**Since peanut allergies are relatively common, and potentially fatal, make sure to mention to any guests that the cake contains peanut oil.**

The veg oil has less calories (unless you use Heart Smart) but the margarine adds a buttery flavor.
