Can i substitute vegetable for olive oil in baking?

i am making a cake and only have olive oil. Will it work?Can i substitute vegetable for olive oil in baking?
I wouldn't! If you have margarine or even butter on hand, it would be best to melt it and use that. Olive oil is best for savory dishes, not in desserts.Can i substitute vegetable for olive oil in baking?
yes aslong as it isn't too much oil i would say about 150ml should be fine anymore would taste a bit funny.
It may taste a little weird...

1/2 cup vegetable oil for crisco?

Crisco shortening or Crisco oil?

It depends on what you are making. For example, if you are making a pie crust and the recipe calls for Crisco shortening, I would not substitute Crisco oil for Crisco shortening.

If the recipe just calls for Crisco oil, you can substitute another vegetable oil. (Crisco is a just a brand name.)1/2 cup vegetable oil for crisco?
In most things, probably an OK sub. But not in pie crust or other pastries!1/2 cup vegetable oil for crisco?
That will work.

Motor Oil good for Vegetable Garden?

I got my first copy of Gardening 101 magazine in the mail today. They had an article about using used motor oil (10w30) mixed with water on your vegetable garden to help with new growth. The recipe called for 1 part Oil to 4 parts water. Anyone tried this?Motor Oil good for Vegetable Garden?
NO, water and oil don't mix, plus you'll be poluting the ground. In most areas that's even illegal! You are kidding, right?Motor Oil good for Vegetable Garden?
Is the intent to stop animals from bothering your plants? That would be the result. Oil has no growing value, and could harm the plants. Animals won't like eating anything that has been exposed to oil.

Just don't use too much. Dumping repeated amounts of oil on one spot will cause it to get into ground water.

And no, small amounts are never illegal and will not harm a thing. Dumping gallons on the ground even over time on the other hand, is a very bad idea.
In a word, NO. Motor oil requires special disposal so it does NOT pollute ground water.

Will drinking vegetable oil make me gain weight!and how much?

Everyone says eat more calories at each meal to gain weight ....well why can't i just drink a whole lot of vegetable oil.....i'm trying to gain 30lbs by feb. and ..........i work out 3 days a week and do 100 pushups a night but i'm only 148.....just trying to get bigger and stronger!Will drinking vegetable oil make me gain weight!and how much?
if U want 30lbs of fat, do it.Will drinking vegetable oil make me gain weight!and how much?
Drinking Vegetable oil is a terrible idea. If you want to gain FAT you can do that, and then feel sick and put your body into intake shock (you will lose all energy and become depressed).

A better idea would be to slowly increase the amount of weight lifting you do daily and buy a weight gain powder mix from a local health store. Body Pump is my favorite, you can mix tons into a huge glass of milk and increase your HEALTHY calorie intake by thousands. This will make the weight gain mostly muscle (though if you purely want weight fast, this will do the trick if you don't exercise).
yes it makes you gain weight but it will make you very ill

try protein shakes maybe and eat ltos of natural protein like chicken and tuna, lots of veggies and drink water

do 200 pushups, keep building them up, your body will get to used to doing 100 and you wont get any bigger!

good luck x
I really don't advise that, if u want to get bigger and stronger, not fatter then stick to working out coz not only will drinking oil make u sick, it will probably make u fat-ugh just thinking about drinking oil makes me feel sick.
You need healthier calories. You may gain weight, but the side effects won't be worth it.
I don't know about gaining weight but it will make you sick as a dog.

    Celiac question: Can a celiac have things w/ partially hydrogenated vegetable oil (soybean and cottonseed oil)

    Yep. The only thing that would cause a problem is if you have other intolerances. Soy is a common intolerance. If it's just celiac then it's fine.

    Baby Moon Oil

    Ingredients: Lavender, tangerine and ';other'; essential oils, in sweet almond and olive oils.

    Hope that helps!

    I know what you were trying to get at...

    But I don't see ';babies'; as an ingredient in any of those oils up top.
    Vegetable oil is called Vegetable oil since it is obtained from Vegetation(plants or trees), so that it can differentiated from Petroleum oil like Petrol,diesel.

    Olive oil is also vegetable oil like many others viz. groundnut oil, sunflower oil, rice bran oil, rapeseed oil.

    Baby oil can be a blend of various vegetable oils with petroleum as base oil.
    Saw this one coming a mile off.

    You should have watched a comedy programme a few years ago on TV where they showed a sketch of ';The Two Fat Ladies'; starting their own lines in that sort of thing - it was when the likes of that American bloke with the silly accent who used to do the Sunday afternoon cooking competition started to bring out his own brand of cooking sauces. The sketch showed what purported to be the ';TFL'; sitting on babies to produce the baby oil - so you see, it really IS made from squashing babies.
    Ha Ha. Very good question, but as a Mommie you should know the answer to that.

    Baby oil or boys:

    Is it true that soya is only a toxic by-product of the vegetable oil industry and not health food?

    It's not a by-product!!! Soybean oil is the product..made from soybeans. Pure natural stuff. What they do after that who knows?Is it true that soya is only a toxic by-product of the vegetable oil industry and not health food?
    no that is not true. I live in the middle of Illinois and can attest to the fact that there are thousands of acres of soybean fields..(I'm surrounded) so no it is NOT any kind of by-product of the vegetable oil industryIs it true that soya is only a toxic by-product of the vegetable oil industry and not health food?
    There are many mixed review about soy. It is OK in it natural form. It become a problem when it is processed like most other foods. Do more research on this topic before over indulging in this product. It is reported that this product is an issue in girls at an early age. Best to be safe than sorry. My daughter had issues with soy milk.
    Soya is another word for soy, most commonly used by the British.

    The soybean is a leguminous plant (Glycine max) native to Asia and now grown much more widely.

    I don't know how you can confuse a bean with a byproduct. It is a bean.

    Diesel vegetable oil kit question?

    Ive been searching alot about vegetable oil as diesel fuel, and I heard the word dewater and purge. What does that mean?Diesel vegetable oil kit question?
    Be very careful with bio fuels. Especially diesel as nearly all new vehicles use the fuel as a lubricant in the fuel pump as well. If its made right it will still detiorate the pump quicker than normal diesel. All fuel pumps have very fine tolerances (only a few micron). Think carefully before using the fuel.

    Can't help with the manufacturing of it as I only know the mechanical effects.Diesel vegetable oil kit question?
    I think dewater is referencing the veg-oil itself. Some of the oils, particularly used vegoil, may have water in them that is not good for combustion - but maybe good for cooking or because of cooking.

    Dewater may be referring to removing it so that oil can combust in the diesel engine; otherwise the water may inhibit combustion.

    SVO with a conversion kit has been used to power diesel cars and same with biodiesel. Both are just fine with diesel but they definitely do wear out the lines faster than normal diesel. But, replacing the lines regularly compared to your fuel savings is worth it. You get better mileage and the oil is good for the engine as well.

    Newer diesels though may not welcome vegoil or biodiesel as well because of the more precise engineering. But if you have a car or truck that is a few years older vegoil or biodiesel are good alternative fuels for you.

  • If water is the same frequency of vegetable oil, which would have the longer wavelength?

    I don't know exactly what you are talking about, but I know that wavelength= (speed of light)/frequency. So, if two substances have the same frequency, they should have the same wavelength.If water is the same frequency of vegetable oil, which would have the longer wavelength?
    Since wavelength is the period of the waves, and they are the same, the frequency would be the same. The period is the distance from one wave to the next. Frequency is how many of these wave's occur in a second.

    What natural remedy is good for killing earmites inmy cat? i have been using vegetable oil !?

    Two ounces of aloe vera gel mixed with one teaspoon hydrogen peroxide. Squish in ears once a day until brown discharge is gone, then repeat weekly for two more weeks.What natural remedy is good for killing earmites inmy cat? i have been using vegetable oil !?
    If you're sure it's mites, try olive oil, it is thicker than veg. oil and will smother/kill the ear mites,.. used every other day,.. ears will be sore,... clean out with dry cottom ball afterwds.

    Gd. luck.What natural remedy is good for killing earmites inmy cat? i have been using vegetable oil !?
    No good natural remedy - you need a vet.
    Vegetable oil does NOT kill ear mites..all you are doing is making your cat an oily mess! Take your cat to the vet for the proper medication. If there were natural remedies for this vets and pharmaceutical companies would be out of business.
    Vegetable oil goes rancid and will only compound your problem. Go to the vet. Don't use olive oil either.
    You'll need to get medicine from the vet. Revolution is great for ear mites, worms, and fleas. Take your kitty soon. Ear mites are not to be taken lightly.
    Myself Ive had no problems with earmites, But my mom use to use warm mineral oil in her cats ears. And that worked for her. So try that !! Hope this helps you out !!!!

    What can I use as a substitute for quarter of a cup of vegetable oil (for brownies)?

    Can I use butter instead/ How much/?What can I use as a substitute for quarter of a cup of vegetable oil (for brownies)?
    HECK! The oil is already a substitute for butter in the first place. The best brownies and most other baked goods use butter. Americans got into this cheap and creepy business of using margerine and other crap because of nasty advertising by the big food Corps...

    Butter is better!What can I use as a substitute for quarter of a cup of vegetable oil (for brownies)?
    You can use butter or margarine instead , just melt it first and slightly cool before adding if it calls for 1/4 cup of oil then use 1/4 cup butter, melted . Do not use diet or whipped .. Also you can use 3/4 cup sour cream and 1 tablespoon water for the oil and water.
    You can use equal amounts of butter or use applesauce.
    You should be able to use butter instead. I would use the same amount of butter as you would vegetable oil. Just melt it first.
    I always use applesauce instead of oil. I can't say for sure how anything else would work, as that's all I've ever used.

    Olive oil, vegetable oil, baby iol, penut oil or macadamia oil in my exfoliator?

    Im making an exfoliator right now for my legs, with salt and oil. which one should I use?

    or any other suggestions?Olive oil, vegetable oil, baby iol, penut oil or macadamia oil in my exfoliator?
    Replace salt with sugar. Vegetable oil is lighter. A piece of advice: after exfoliating, apply a body wash to the area being exfoliated then wash it away with water, pat dry, then hydrate your skin with a rich moisturizer.Olive oil, vegetable oil, baby iol, penut oil or macadamia oil in my exfoliator?
    Olive Oil is best. But you can use Canola oil, or any other oil at that, as well. It's when you get to your face that you should use Olive Oil.
    Baby oil for it has substance that is meant for babies and are also applicable to the older persons.

    You must use baby oil during wintertime to keep you skin fresh and in good condition.
    I LOVE olive oil mixed with sugar! The sugar has natural AHA's that exfoliate, and the olive oil leaves my skin really soft.
    If it's JUST for your legs, go with olive or baby...This is

    your skin, remember...I usually just useSt. I'ves Apricot Scrub on my

    legs, though...and then good body lotion! Baby oil's great, too!

    But when using it on your Face, - I'm sure you know, oil's def. a bad idea...

    Can phytoplankton be made into vegetable oil?

    no.

    plants have a need for fat storage, thus the oil.Can phytoplankton be made into vegetable oil?
    That's a good question, I think it could be, I dunno, I wanna check that one out. let me know if what you find out!Can phytoplankton be made into vegetable oil?
    First off, phytoplankton are not plants. It includes bacteria, algae and Protista. Then there is the oil content. Very little.

    Plants used to make vegetable oil have a high natural oil content. Corn, soy beans and peanuts are examples.

    ';Phytoplankton are the photosynthetic plankton or the producers. Notice I did not say the plants....';

    you can't convert it into gas, but you can convert into diesel. It's called Biodiesel. I saw an eppisode of ';Trucks'; and they claim that it actually produced more horsepower than diesel from the pump (from oil). Basically you hydrolyze fatty esters, then convert them to the methyl esters. If you search the internet for ';Biodiesel'; you'll get plenty of information.
    Yes, its called Biodiesel, you can get a lot of stuff on the web.

    Can i use corn oil to make chicken nuggets instead of vegetable oil?

    definitely.. personally, i use extra virgin olive oil, because they are very healthy..Can i use corn oil to make chicken nuggets instead of vegetable oil?
    Corn oil is just one kind of vegetable oil. Works fine for chicken nuggets, or anywhere else use would use canola or other vegetable oil. Olive oil is also vegetable oil, so is grape seed oil, peanut oil, and several others. Vegetable oil just means that it's not animal fat - lard or bacon grease, for example, or mineral oil.Can i use corn oil to make chicken nuggets instead of vegetable oil?
    Yes, if that's all you have. I personally don't like using corn oil for anything, because, I feel that it adds a ';flavor '; to the finished product. In that vein, I won't use olive oil or Wesson oil to fry anything in.

    My favorite frying oils are both Crisco vegetable oil, of peanut oil. Neither seem to add any off flavors to the food being fried.

    If your interested, I;'ve got a great recipe for chicken fingers on my website: http://www.capnrons.com/R_M_Chicken_Tend鈥?/a>
    Yes! You can seriously use whatever kind of oil you want.. even grease.. but it's a good thing you don't :]. My favorite oil is Olive Oil, because it is healthy and I think it tastes much better than all the other oils, also. I am full Italian so I use olive oil for everything :] even bread!
    You can use corn oil if you want to. Vegetable oil, even it is made of ';vegetables';, it still has a small amount of cholesterol and some fat. I suggest to use either canola oil or corn oil.
    Yes... corn oil, canola oil, peanut oil are good substitutes for deep frying with veggie oil.
    YES, THEY WILL ALL WORK THE SAME. I ALWAYS USE VEGETABLE OIL B/C THAT BOTTLE IS BIGGER AND LESS EXPENSIVE
    yes !

    The oil may foam a bit and not last too long but you will be fine for one or two frying sessions.
    Corn oil is basically vegetable oil... go ahead.
    I think Corn oil is better.
    yeah! but the sun flower oil is better i think
    Yeah..

    Can my diesel car re alley run in vegetable oil alone .?

    please help i have a diesel car if ihave and empty tank and i go to the supermarket and buy vegetable or sunflower oil and put it in the the tank will the car strat please help!

    Thanks maxCan my diesel car re alley run in vegetable oil alone .?
    Its actually fryer oil that it will run on.

    And YES, it can be converted over to run on it. You cant just put it in without going thru the conversion.

    There was an article in Playboy last month that talked about the legality of it.

    Look here for some info:

    http://www.ravenfamily.org/andyg/vegoil.鈥?/a>Can my diesel car re alley run in vegetable oil alone .?
    depends how hot it is. If you live in Arizona in the summer, yeah, it has a slim chance of working. Go get ';from the fryer to the fuel tank'; by Joshua Tickell. He states that the oil needs to be preheated, to above 160f before the viscosity will drop into the useable range. So, you might want to take some time to rerig the fuel system, or consider turning out a couple batches of bio diesel, which will burn straight in the tank with minor modifications to the engine and lines.

    If all you're looking to do is get to the next service station and top off with diesel... don't waste your time with the vegetable oil, it's too thick.
    Yes but you don't want to run strait vegtable oil. Vegtable oil is slightly caustic and will eat up your fuel lines and pump if you run it strait. Even the biodiesel currently being manufactured and sold at the pump is only mixed to a maximum of 25% because of this problem. It is due to the engine technology not yet being caught up to the fuel technology. The newer diesel engines are built to handle this fuel and by law any diesel engine built after 2007 must be compliant to the 15Parts per million sulphur fuel being sold now which also happens to make them more resistant to the caustic effects. As to the specifics of your question: Yes it will start and run but there is more to it than that. In extreamly cold weather you should not put it in unless the engine is still warm because the vegtable oil will gel at a higher temberature than diesel fuel. If you have a tank heater and line heater on your vehicle this is less of a problem. Just be sure to fill the tank with clean diesel as soon as possible and never put more than a quarter tank in yourt car.(vegtable oil that is) The B20 (20% Biodiesel) is what I burn in my Ford. It is cleaner burning and I get a tax break for usuing it. History FYI : Origionaly diesel engines were designed to burn strait vegtable oil, but modern engines moved away from this when diesel fuel became cheaper than vegtable oil in the late 1940's.
    not exactly...you need to start it with diesel and when its at operating temperature you can blend some into it , if you want to run your car on veggie oil only you have to strip out the glucides from the oil then blend it with methanol before it will burn by itself
    no.

    Can virgin olive oil be used instead of vegetable oil when baking cookies?

    Virgin Olive oil has a definite taste and vegetable oil does not. The taste of olive oil is much more suited to savory foods than to sweet ones. In short olive oil would work in the recipe but the cookies might be an ';acquired taste';Can virgin olive oil be used instead of vegetable oil when baking cookies?
    yes, but you've got to understand that olive oil does have a certain flavor and if the taste of olive oil doesn't bother you in you're cookies, cakes or otherwise, then go for it, however if you have canola oil it would be preferable because vegetable and canola oils don't have any distinct taste which makes them ideal for baking uses. but if you really need to use the olive oil, look up a recipe that calls specifically for olive oil in the cookies or whatever you're baking. Otherwise, if it really doesn't bother you, go for it.Can virgin olive oil be used instead of vegetable oil when baking cookies?
    yes it can, but you will taste the difference.
    yes

    Is vegetable oil a vegetarian food?

    Vegetable oil may be made from a single ingredient or a blend of several. Refined oils are recommended for high-heat frying. Unrefined specialty oils are generally better tasting in salads and other cold dishes.

    Oils are extracted from seeds, nuts, and the flesh of fruit, as in the case of olive oil.

    Varieties

    Vegetable oils include safflower, peanut, corn, soybean, olive, and canola. There are many more and each may have specific uses for fried, baked, or cold-service foods.

    Most oils will be available as either refined (lighter in color and bland) or unrefined. Depending on the refining process, oils will have varying smoke points. For high heat cooking, use refined peanut or safflower oil.

    Unrefined oils are best as dressings, as an ingredient in marinades, and for low-temperature sautéing. Some of these are a healthier choice and will be full-bodied.

    Buying Tips

    Most vegetable oils will add no discernible taste in frying. However, peanut oil is one that can impart some flavoring to foods.

    For healthier choices, check labels for levels of fats. Avoid those that state “partially hydrogenated” and “saturated.” The “good” fats will be listed as unsaturated, polyunsaturated, or monounsaturated. Canola is at the top of the heart-healthy list as it is the lowest in saturated fats.

    Blended oils may not list every ingredient. Generic “cooking oils” are generally soybean-based.

    Storage Tips

    • These oils do not require refrigeration and may turn cloudy when cold.

    • They will be good for about twelve months if stored properly (out of sunlight).

    Usage Tips

    • Do not use vegetable oil as a dressing.

    • When reusing frying oils, remember that the smoke point may be lower than when it is fresh.

    • Use extra virgin or extra light olive oils for cooking. Unrefined olive oil will begin to smoke at about 320 degrees F.

    Substitution Tips

    • Butter, margarine, or lard

    • Cooking spray if used as a coating

    Culinary uses

    See also: Cooking oil

    Many vegetable oils are consumed directly, or used directly as ingredients in food - a role that they share with some animal fats, including butter and ghee. The oils serve a number of purposes in this role:

    Texture - oils can serve to make other ingredients stick together less.

    Flavor - while less-flavorful oils command premium prices, oils such as olive oil or almond oil may be chosen specifically for the flavor they impart.

    Flavor base - oils can also ';carry'; the flavors of other ingredients, since many flavors are present in chemicals that are soluble in oil.

    Secondly, oils can be heated, and used to cook other foods. Oils that are suitable for this purpose must have a high flash point. Such oils include the major cooking oils - canola, sunflower oil, safflower oil, peanut oil, linseed oil etc. Some oils, including rice bran oil, are particularly valued in Asian cultures for high temperature cooking, because of their unusually high flash point.Is vegetable oil a vegetarian food?

    The ones used for cooking are usually soya, corn peanut, palm, or a blend of oils. Different types yield different results, as they have different boiling points.

    The way these oils are extracted can come in two types- chemical or physical.

    The chemical way is through using solvent extracts, which produces higher yields and is quicker and less expensive. The most common solvent is a derivative of petroleum, hexane.

    The physical way would obviously be through a presser, of which there are many types.

    All in all, I think you do not have to worry about it being tainted with animal products; the extraction and production processes are all highly controlled. :)
    Vegetable fats and oils are substances composed of triglycerides, derived from plants.

    Difference between vegetable oil & blend oil?

    What's different about oils -- aside from the fact that they're pressed from varying plants, seeds, grains, nuts, and beans -- is their flavor, color, texture, and, perhaps most important, their taste. An oil should not overwhelm the dish it is added to. So, too, you should not use some oils in cooking, because their taste is better if you don't heat them.

    Vegetable oil refers to oils extracted from numerous sources - corn, soybeans, peanuts, cottonseeds, safflower seeds, rape seeds (for canola oil) and sunflower seeds. Pale in color and neutral in flavor, they can be heated to high temperatures. Cold-pressed oils are preferred over those processed using heat.

    Canola oil is the healthy choice for today's cooks. It is cholesterol free and with only 1 gram of fat, it has 50% less saturated fat than olive or other vegetable oils. With its high smoking point and mild flavor canola oil is a preferred choice for salad dressings as well as cooking.

    For other types of oil, see chili, hazelnut, olive, peanut, sesame, and walnut oils, and olive oil and vegetable oil cooking sprays.

    A blended oil (such as olive oil combined with soybean oil) provides the best qualities of both oils together as one. The combined flavor is more neutral than straight olive oil, and its smoke point is higher.Difference between vegetable oil %26amp; blend oil?
    Generally, vegetable oil is soybean oil. At least in the USA, it's soybean oil.

    Blend is a mixture or ';blend'; of oils.Difference between vegetable oil %26amp; blend oil?
    blend oil is a ';mixture: of cooking oil
    Vegetable oil is just that but blend could be a mixture of several. Check the label to see what is used.

    no

    What can i subsititute for vegetable oil?

    Wow. Everybody is suggesting you use vegetable oil as a substitute for vegetable oil???

    Here are some real substitutes...

    Vegetable oil--for baking 1 cup

    1 cup applesauce

    OR 1 cup fruit puree

    Vegetable oil--for frying 1 cup

    1 cup lard

    OR 1 cup vegetable shortening

    BertWhat can i subsititute for vegetable oil?
    butter, lard - depends on the purpose. If it needs to get really hot then butter will burn.What can i subsititute for vegetable oil?
    sunflower oil
    You can substitute any other kind of oil (olive, canola, etc.) Oil is oil, they all do the same things.

    The only difference will be the taste of the oil, so make sure you are o.k. with the taste of whatever oil you choose!

    Hope this helps :)
    olive or canola oil are both good choices
    The healthiest is unrefined coconut oil.
    in using oils there are a lot of things to consider, health, flavor smoking point and such.

    in regards to health olive oil is the best, then followed by the unsaturated oils like, canola, sunflower, corn oils.then theres saturated oils, like palm, coconut and soy oils. then theres the fat, oils that are solid in room temp and it can certainly kill you like lard, butter and margarine.

    in deepfrying the thing you need to look for is the smoking point. peanut oil is best, cause it has the highest smoking point, and olive oil is the least because of its very low smoking point and you will be wasting your money.

    then theres flavor, for pastries and cakes butter, sesame oil for oriental foods, in terms of flavor each each oil is unique
    olive oil...its sooo much healthier!
    if you want a healthier oil for deep frying you can use canola oil or safflower oil. If your into sauteing or you need oil for salad dressing, olive oil is the best choice. Olive oil is considered the healthiest and have lots of nutritional benefits. Happy cooking.....

    thank you MaxSunflower vs vegetable oil but which as car fuel?
    Please dont do this.you need more info on what makes a diesel engine run.Sunflower vs vegetable oil but which as car fuel?
    Sunflower oil is a vegetable oil.

    The Diesel engine was originally designed to run on peanut oil.

    Do a search for bio fuel and find the right way to run a diesel on vege oil.

    If you don't sapponify the oil first you will damage the engine in the long term, it has to do with modifying the glycerides.

    Home heating oil is the same as diesel except for the dye and the road tax. It's illegal to use on the road because you won't have paid the road tax which is what makes it cheaper.

    What is the difference between corn oil vs vegetable oil? Regarding health?

    Corn

    Epidemiological studies have shown that consumption of corn and other

    grain products is associated with reduced risk of chronic diseases. The

    health benefits of corn are attributed in part to their unique

    phytochemical composition. [4] However, the phytochemical contents in

    grains have been commonly underestimated in the literature, because

    bound phytochemicals were not included. Liu RH and co-workers from

    Cornell University investigated the complete phytochemical profiles in

    free, soluble conjugated, and insoluble bound forms, as well as their

    antioxidant activities in a few uncooked whole grains. They found that

    corn had the highest total phenolic content (15.55 micromol of gallic acid

    equiv/g of grain) of the grains tested, followed by wheat (7.99 micromol),

    oats (6.53 micromol), and rice (5.56 micromol).

    The major portion of phenolics in grains existed in the bound form (85%

    in corn, 75% in oats and wheat, and 62% in rice). Ferulic acid was the

    major phenolic compound in grains tested, with free, soluble-conjugated,

    and bound ferulic acids present in the ratio 0.1:1:100. Corn had the

    highest total antioxidant activity (181.42 micromol of vitamin C equiv/g of

    grain), followed by wheat (76.70 micromol), oats (74.67 micromol), and

    rice (55.77 micromol). Bound phytochemicals were the major contributors

    to the total antioxidant activity: 90% in wheat, 87% in corn, 71% in rice,

    and 58% in oats. Bound phytochemicals could survive stomach and

    intestinal digestion to reach the colon. This may partly explain the

    mechanism of grain consumption in the prevention of colon cancer, other

    digestive cancers, breast cancer, and prostate cancer.

    Veggie

    In general, we consider vegetable oils to be healthier than fats derived from animals. this is largely thanks to the efforts of commercial vegetable oil producers to link the modern problems of cancer and heart disease with animal fat (especially saturated fat) consumption.

    The truth is somewhat different.

    Pure vegetable oils, such as olive oil have been in use for thousand of years, and their benefits as part of a balanced diet are well understood. In fact, most vegetable oils are probably alright as part of a balanced diet and would certainly be unlikely to do any harm (except in excessive amounts) if it were not for the fact that they are chemically altered before they are used.

    These oils now form a massive proportion of all the vegetable oils used worldwide, but particularly in the Western world and more especially North America. Whilst many liquid oils, such as sunflower oil are largely unadulterated, the solid forms of vegetable oils, such as margerine, shortening and some liquid oils are chemically altered forms of the natural oils, commonly known as hydrogenated vegetable oils.

    Hydrogenation (explained here) changes these oils from their natural state to a dangerous, unnatural one which has major detrimental effects on health. If you are concerned in any way about the fat in your diet (and, as you ar reading this, I suspect you are!) you MUST understand the effects that hydrogenated oils have on the human body.

    yes .. i wanna play .. with myself .. and i need something .. but im too young to go buy some .. cause i dont drive .. so i want to know if it would be ok and safe ..? cause i need something and i dont have like petroleum in my house or vaseline .. so please tell me if i can use vegetale oil or anything else tht i might have in my house ..

    thhhhhhhhhhhhhannnnnnnk uuuuuuuuu !Is vegetable oil good for lubrication?
    If you are not using condoms, it is safe to use vegetable based oils, including olive oil, for a sexual lubricant. As well as commonly available oils like olive and almond oils, there are also commercial lubricants available, which are made from plant extracts. For example, 鈥楽ylk鈥? which is predominantly a kiwifruit vine extract or 鈥榊es鈥? which is based on cocoa and shea butter.

    If you are using condoms you can only use water-based lubricants like KY. This is because oils (of all kinds) damage rubber and may cause the condom to tear or break.Is vegetable oil good for lubrication?
    Have you started your period? Do you wear tampons? if so then just tell your mom that you are having trouble getting them in and ask if you can go get some KYgel to make for easier application. If you haven't started wearing tampons then tell your mom that you are wanting to start but you don't want it to hurt so you need some kind of lubricant. Then just use it for ';other'; things. If that doesnt work then just use a little bit of a water based lotion
    I guess it would be ok but if you have baby oil or mineral oil you can use that too.

    vegetable oil is really bad for you, the oil breaks down at high temperature and it becomes unstable and is bad for your healthy. As you known, the USA is banning the use of vegetable oil because of trans fat (hydrogenated oil), Extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) is the best oil you can eat drink and rub on your skin good. You can do whatever with olive oil.
    depends on what you like. vegetable oil is better than Crisco or bacon grease, ect. Olive oil, the extra virgin kind, is better for you and honestly just as good, better to me, than vegetable oil. I like the flavor and you can bake with it, but if you have a really sensitive taste, maybe it wont work for you. Best to try it and find out.

    I know what you're thinking (';aren't olives vegetables?';), and olives are technically fruits. Like tomatoes are.
    depend on your taste.

    I think you meant corn oil not corn syrup

    if you sub. corn oil for veg oil then yes you use the same amount.

    you could also use canola, sunflower, safflower or peanut oil would work as well - and you would use the same measurment.

    I use olive oil for a lot of things, but I wouldn't reccommend it for pumpkin bread - it's too heavy.

    you could also use applesauce instead of oil too.Vegetable Oil substitute?
    you could use applesauce
    You can substitute Vegetable oil with any oil that is of neutral flavor. Safflower, corn, canola... But if you have olive oil you can use that too. Syrup and Oil are two totally different things.
    You can use olive oil as a sub. You could also melt shortening or butter.
    I just use olive oil as a sub. Corn syrup is too sweet.
    canola oil or olive
    NO dont use corn syrup!!! If you want you can use butter, but if you want to lower the fat content you can use half oil or butter and half buttermilk, or all buttermilk, it is really low in fat and yet keeps things very moist.

    Make sure its extra lite olive oil. Extra lite does not mean its more healthy, just that the flavor is not as strong. The reason they suggest vegetable oil is because it does not add flavor to your baked goods.
    I wouldn't unless you have extra light olive oil. It will say on the bottle whether it's light or not. The lighter, the better. Less olive flavor.
    sure...theres a chance that you may taste it a bit but most people's palettes are not sensitive enough to pick it up

    Great. Let's feed machines instead of starving people.
    There is no way with current technology that enough vegetable oil could be produced to meet the current demand for diesel fuel. To do so would require a vast amount of increase in crop land to grow the required amount of grain to meet the need.

  • How do they make vegetable oil or get oil out of vegetables?

    The ';modern'; way of processing vegetable oil is by chemical extraction, using solvent extracts, which produces higher yields and is quicker and less expensive. The most common solvent is petroleum-derived hexane. This technique is used for most of the ';newer'; industrial oils such as soybean and corn oils.

    Another way is physical extraction, which does not use solvent extracts. It is made the ';traditional'; way using several different types of mechanical extraction.[11] This method is typically used to produce the more traditional oils (e.g., olive), and it is preferred by most ';health-food'; customers in the USA and in Europe. Expeller-pressed extraction is one type, and there are two other types that are both oil presses: the screw press and the ram press. Oil seed presses are commonly used in developing countries, among people for whom other extraction methods would be prohibitively expensive. [1How do they make vegetable oil or get oil out of vegetables?
    they'; make them an offer they can't refuse ! ';How do they make vegetable oil or get oil out of vegetables?
    First you wait for a the vegetables to make a minor territorial incurssion, like say wait for a carrot to get stuck in the garbage disposal, call it a terrorist act, then invade the cabbage patch, Then you tell them in order to rebuild the trampling damage you did by invading you need them to give up all their oil.
    The Manufacturing Process:

    Some vegetable oils, such as olive, peanut, and some coconut and sunflower oils, are cold-pressed. This method, which entails minimal processing, produces a light, flavorful oil suitable for some cooking needs. Most oil sources, however, are not suitable for cold pressing, because it would leave many undesirable trace elements in the oil, causing it to be odiferous, bitter tasting, or dark. These oils undergo many steps beyond mere extraction to produce a bland, clear, and consistent oil.

    Cleaning and grinding

    1. Incoming oil seeds are passed over magnets to remove any trace metal before being dehulled, deskinned, or otherwise stripped of all extraneous material. In the case of cotton, the ginned seeds must be stripped of their lint as well as dehulled. In the case of corn, the kernel must undergo milling to separate the germ.

    2. The stripped seeds or nuts are then ground into coarse meal to provide more surface area to be pressed. Mechanized grooved rollers or hammer mills crush the material to the proper consistency. The meal is then heated to facilitate the extraction of the oil. While the procedure allows more oil to be pressed out, more impurities are also pressed out with the oil, and these must be removed before the oil can be deemed edible.

    Pressing

    3. The heated meal is then fed continuously into a screw press, which increases the pressure progressively as the meal passes through a slotted barrel. Pressure generally increases from 68,950 to 20,6850 kilopascals as the oil is squeezed out from the slots in the barrel, where it can be recovered.

    Extracting additional oil with solvents

    4. Soybeans are usually not pressed at all before solvent extraction, because they have relatively little oil, but most oil seeds with more oil are pressed and solvent-treated. After the initial oil has been recovered from the screw press, the oil cake remaining in the press is processed by solvent extraction to attain the maximum yield. A volatile hydrocarbon (most commonly hexane) dissolves the oil out of the oil cake, which is then recovered by distilling the light solvent out. The Blaw-Knox Rotocell is used to meet the demands of the United States soybean oil industry. In using this machine, flakes of meal are sent through wedge-shaped cells of a cylindrical vessel. The solvent then passes through the matter to be collected at the bottom. Also still in use by a significant number of manufacturers is the Bollman or Hansa-Muhle unit, in which oilseed flakes are placed in perforated baskets that circulate continuously. The solvent percolates through the matter which is periodically dumped and replaced.

    Removing solvent traces

    5. Ninety percent of the solvent remaining in the extracted oil simply evaporates, and, as it does, it is collected for reuse. The rest is retrieved with the use of a stripping column. The oil is boiled by steam, and the lighter hexane floats upward. As it condenses, it, too, is collected.

    Refining the oil

    6. The oil is next refined to remove color, odor, and bitterness. Refining consists of heating the oil to between 107 and 188 degrees Fahrenheit (40 and 85 degrees Celsius) and mixing an alkaline substance such as sodium hydroxide or sodium carbonate with it. Soap forms from the undesired fatty acids and the alkaline additive, and it is usually removed by centrifuge. The oil is further washed to remove traces of soap and then dried.

    7. Oils are also degummed at this time by treating them with water heated to between 188 and 206 degrees Fahrenheit (85 and 95 degrees Celsius), steam, or water with acid. The gums, most of which are phosphatides, precipitate out, and the dregs are removed by centrifuge.

    8. Oil that will be heated (for use in cooking) is then bleached by filtering it through fuller's earth, activated carbon, or activated clays that absorb certain pigmented material from the oil. By contrast, oil that will undergo refrigeration (because it is intended for salad dressing, for example) is winterized鈥攔apidly chilled and filtered to remove waxes. This procedure ensures that the oil will not partially solidify in the refrigerator.

    9. Finally, the oil is deodorized. In this process, steam is passed over hot oil in a vacuum at between 440 and 485 degrees Fahrenheit (225 and 250 degrees Celsius), thus allowing the volatile taste and odor components to distill from the oil. Typically, citric acid at. 01 percent is also added to oil after deodorization to inactivate trace metals that might promote oxidation within the oil and hence shorten its shelf-life.

    Packaging the oil

    10. The completely processed oil is then I V measured and poured into clean containers, usually plastic bottles for domestic oils to be sold in supermarkets, glass bottles for imports or domestic oils to be sold in specialty stores, or cans for imports (usually olive oil).

    Can vegetable shortening be melted into vegetable oil?

    making a derby pie....ran out

    i think my mom said that it can be but not positiveCan vegetable shortening be melted into vegetable oil?
    You sure can. There is no need to if it's for the crust. Using shortening for the crust will give it a more resiliant quality. Just mix it in with the dry ingredients until the mixture is crumbly. Add any wet ingredients and work it as normal. If you use it in the filling, it will end up being a little firmer.

    Good luck.Can vegetable shortening be melted into vegetable oil?

    Baking鈥擲hortening can be melted and then measured according to the recipe. It should be allowed to cool slightly before adding to other ingredients.

    Look on the Blend label it should tell you what it is composed of. Likely it is canola and sunflower oil or something like that. As long as it isn't a blend with olive oil you could use the Blend.

    Enova is soy and canola oil so you can also use that.
    The best oil for you is one with a low saturated fat and that means rapeseed oil - you yanks call it canola.
    I've never heard of either of them. If the Enova says cooking oil, then it might be a vegetable oil
    probally dnt c the harm n it....but if not u cud just go to wal-mart land buy some vegitable oil!!!!!

    Vegetable oil is a euphemism for a mix of oils from different plants, usually the biggest proportion is rapeseed oil.

    I wouldn't allow it in my kitchen, not only some of them have a taste vile, but there's a suspicion that they can be carcinogenic, due to the fact that different oils burn at different temperatures and mixing them is not a good idea.

  • Is extra virgin olive oil better than vegetable oil?

    Yes, of course it is...extra virgin olive oil has essential fatty acids which are great for your heart....Also it tastes a heck of a lot better than vegetable oil....

    My opinion....vegetable oil should be used only if you are deep frying something, which shouldn't be that often anyway....Is extra virgin olive oil better than vegetable oil?
    I need to do a little explaining. 1) Extra-Virgin Olive Oil is

    the first pressing of HIGH QUALITY olives. Most extra-virgin

    comes from Spain/Italy/Greece, usually pick of the crop

    from all 3 countries. I note that Turkish olives are being used also. EV olive oil is like fine wine. It should be used to make salad oils, some marinades or eaten raw. EV olive oil has a greenish tint from the color of the olives. 2) Plain Ooil

    is used again in salad dressings or in light sauces. 3) Lite

    Ooil can be used for cooking, but at a lower temperature

    and used 1/2 to 1/2 with another oil such as corn/canola/

    soy, etc.

    All Ooil has a low burn point so can only be used at low

    temperatures. If cooking at higher temps canola, or plain

    ';cooking oils'; should be used.

    4) So it's not a matter of what's better. They are both good

    for what you need. I saute with plain olive oil and butter.Is extra virgin olive oil better than vegetable oil?
    Olive Oil is definitely better for you than vegetable oil.

    Extra Virgin Olive Oil is better for things like drizzling over steamed vegetables, salad dressing, dipping bread. Check the label for the acidity of the oil. The lower the acidity, the smoother and better tasting the oil.

    Regular olive oil is better for cooking, since it has a higher smoke point. Use it for sauteing, light frying, marinating things that are going to be baked. It really shouldn't be used for deep frying, though. That's too hot for it.

    Olive oil is more expensive, but it isn't good to use too much oil anyway.
    it is better and more flavorful extra virgin means it's the oil from the very first press so it is very good
    yes much better
    Yes, tastes much better. Dont use it for frying though, it breaks down into harmful freeradicals (and you destroy most of the flavour anyway). Use it in pasta sauces, salad dressings etc.
    Yes. I don't even buy vegetable oil anymore.
    It is if your looking to add a little flavor to what your cooking. If your just not wanting things to stick to a pan use vegetable oil!
    It is healthier for you.
    We get most of our fats from margarine, butter, cooking fats and oils. meat, milk, cheese, eggs, and from 'hidden' fats in cakes, biscuits and crisps.

    Cooking Oil .... There are two 'essential' fatty acids important to health that need to be supplied by food we eat. All unsaturated vegetable oils, these include sunflower oil (which is high in the healthier polyunsaturated fats) and soya bean are good sources of these. If an oil is labelled 'cold pressed' or 'virgin' it has come from the first pressing which is carried out at a low temperature, and is of a better quality. This distinction is important with olive oil which is graded according to acidity. Extra virgin olive oil is considered the best as it has the lowest acidity. Olive oil (the finest and dearest oil) containing only polyunsaturated fats. Virgin olive oil is actually cholesterol-free.

    ~~~ Good Luck! ~~~ _;-)
    According to all the top chefs the virgin oil is better. But also depends on the dish. Too pricey for me.
    I have a 2005 F350 with the 6.0 diesel. Can I use 50% vegetable oil and 50% regular diesel for fuel per tank?
    As per the 6.0L Diesel supplement guide from Ford on page 29, no more than 5% concentration of bio-diesel fuel is acceptable for this vehicle application. Hope this helps.
    http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pubs/co鈥?/a>
    Can you add vegetable oil straight to a mix of diesel to run a landrover?
    Vegetable oil will work in most older Indirect Diesel engines, the only thing that you have to watch out for is the softening of the older rubber hoses. -howevever if this occurs which is quite a cheap, albiet fiddly job to replace them with fuel pipes made from Veg Oil resistant materials.
    The important thing to check for is the type of fuel pump which your landrover has fitted. If it is a Bosch then you will have very few problems, however if it is a lucas, then Veg oil usually kills these and it is best avoided.
    It may also be worthwhile checking to see if your vehicle has a heated fuel filter, and if not, then consider fitting one perhaps sourced from a scrap vehicle.
    If you do encounter any problems, it will normally be a a result of the veg oil attacking the old rubber seals in the fuel components or pipes over time and possibly the best thing to do would be to try it in stages, first adding 20% veg and then moving to 50% veg content if everything seems okay.
    You could also consider a twin tank conversion or perhaps Biodiesel if you do have problems on direct Veg Oil
    Veg oil is also getting quite expensive as demand rises, currently as much as 70p - 80p a litre in the supermarkets, so perhaps buying in bulk or filtering / dewatering used oil would also be an option.
    Sources of Veg Oil can be found here:-
    http://www.make-biodiesel.co.uk
    and a useful forum on the subject is here:-
    http://www.vegetableoildiesel.co.uk/forum/index.phpCan you add vegetable oil straight to a mix of diesel to run a landrover?
    I think you need to seek advice from an expert. If the oil is not filtered correctly it will damage your engine. I believe that burnt oil is better than new oil. That why they use chip oil. There are web sits for this, try typing in bio-diesel. You can find out all you need to know. You can save plenty of money but be warned you need to declare it to the TAX man.Can you add vegetable oil straight to a mix of diesel to run a landrover?
    you could..but make sure you have approximately 2x's more diesel init than oil to be safe. also don't attempt it if temps drop below 70 deg. f or so....as the oil will congeal and you wil not get it started till the weather warms up..
    I'm not so sure. I may contact your dealer about this one.
    I know for sure that there are kits that you can purchase to make your diesel run on vegetable oil and biodiesel.
    You need to be careful, if you block the injectors it can be very expensive to repair, and also if it's under warranty you may invalidate the warranty.
    Yes, anything up to 50/50 in your Landy will be fine, but it will smell like a chip shop. By the way, you do know that it's illegal don't you!!
    Apparantley you can do this to anything that takes diesel??
    No you can't in a modern diesel unless it's specifically designed for veg oil. There are problems with the seals in the injector system and the hot oil can solidify. Might be ok in an old tractor though. Generally pump ';Biodiesel'; with up to 5% treated vegetable based oil is ok but you risk damage if you go the DIY route unless you know how to treat the oil
    Yes no problem. I run a 1996 Mitsi Pajero on a mix of 30% veggie in winter and 50% in summer . You can use up to 2500 litres per year of veggie with no tax liability but keep receipts to prove how much you have used just in case your dipped. You can learn more about using veggie oil on our members forum at www.pocuk.co.uk. By the way Tescos Pura veggie oil is only 56p a litre I just bought 300 litres from my local branch.
    THXDoes vegetable oil mix with any other kinds of oils or liquids?
    Vegetable oil should mix with gasoline or motor oil or with other kinds of plant oils like olive oil, corn oil and so on.Does vegetable oil mix with any other kinds of oils or liquids?
    Most oils mix with other oils. Also with alcohols. Alcohol mixes with water, so if you mix oil, water and alcohol they should make an interesting mix.
    Is it alright to use canola oil in place of Vegetable oil for an Italian Bread recipe.?
    YesIs it alright to use canola oil in place of Vegetable oil for an Italian Bread recipe.?
    NO! canola oil is made from rapeseed which is HARMFUL to humans. Canola is a made up word combining canada and oil. threes an enormous industry in canada that sells rapeseed oil as fuel, machine lubricant, soap, and synthetic rubber. This is what you are ingesting, please buy real vegetable oil for your own sake. Canola causes anemia, breathing problems, constipation, irritability.Is it alright to use canola oil in place of Vegetable oil for an Italian Bread recipe.?
    When I make homemade pizza dough, the recipe calls for extra virgin olive oil. I have used a variety of different oils, and even a combination of oil and butter when I was in a pinch. I have to say other than the dough being slightly more dense. No one really noticed I changed a thing!
    Yes, it is.
    In this case, you may substitute any kitchen oil except the very specialized flavored oils like walnut oil, sesame oil, etc.
    Any of the big-bottle oils will do fine, most especially Canola.
    It's probably OK but I have found in the past that canola oil can have a fishy taste, especially if exposed to high temperatures. I don't buy it anymore, but use safflower instead.
  • Is grapeseed oil the same as vegetable oil?
    when a recipe asks for vegetable oil, is grapeseed oil a substitute for plain vegetable oil?Is grapeseed oil the same as vegetable oil?
    not quite... I am a massage therapist, I and many others us grapeseed for massageIs grapeseed oil the same as vegetable oil?
    I wouldn't recommend it for baking. But other recipes like described below would be fine.
    In foods, grapeseed oil has numerous uses. It has a very high smoking point, so many people use grapeseed oil to fry foods. It can also be included in dressings and sauces, and since it emulsifies very well, it does not generally separate when used to make things like mayonnaise. The flavor is also unobtrusive, allowing diners to focus on the main component of the dish. Culinary grapeseed oil can also be flavored with the addition of things like peppers, truffle shavings, and herbs.
    Olive oil / vegetable oil comparison?
    when cooking with these oils, is the only difference the flavor? can you substitute one for the other without tasting a huge difference?Olive oil / vegetable oil comparison?
    I let you know next time I play twister with my girlfriends....Olive oil / vegetable oil comparison?
    Olive oil has a very short shelf life and cannot be expected to last as long as vegetable( soy bean) oil. If you chose to purchase 'extra virgin olive oil' be sure to have the option of exchanging it for oil that has not turned rancid. The best evoo oils are packaged in dark glass bottles. Yes-the sticky flavor of cold pressed olive oils can ruin the best intentions of a flat-flavored rerun of a meal. Fresh butter tempered with fruity olive oil adds insane taste to every dish and fried confection before you. My favorite is deep-dish pizza thats deep sweet ,leavened sour-dough tossed bread that is planted into a black,seasoned pan fully prepared with extrabutter crust fry-ability.
    Oils vary from taste, to health, to cooking methods.
    Olive oil is highest in healthful monounsaturated fats, but it has few healthy omega-3 fatty acids. You can't use it for high-temperature frying, and it may impart an olive flavor when you bake with it.
    Then there's canola oil, which is lowest in saturated fat and has an impressive amount of monounsaturated fat (though not as much as olive oil) as well as more omega-3s than any other vegetable oil. You can use it for both baking and high-temperature frying.
    I use safflower oil in salad dressing since it has the healthful omega-3s but the lightest taste.
    You can substitute if you have to, but Olive oil will always have a better taste.
    yes the oils are similar and have similar functional properties. The olive oil is a bit more flavorfull usually so be careful what you put it in. Also vegetable oil often is more refined and will have a higher smoke point. This makes it better to use for frying like french fries.
    enough to offset the 1500 price tag, anyway?? i have a 2000 honda civic btwIf i convert my engine to run on vegetable oil, do i get tax breaks?
    you don't pay the road tax at the pumps,, but given time the feds will figure a way to tax you.
    Remember when some vehicles used propane?? they had to pay a road tax and had to have the permit to buy propane for an auto.If i convert my engine to run on vegetable oil, do i get tax breaks?
    No it must be manufactured that way Sorry
    First off, unless your honda has a diesel engine, you can't burn vegetable oil in it. Second, vegetable oil is not an EPA approved fuel, so no one can get a tax break from using it.
    Free french fries for life!
    Just wanted to point out, that any engine that runs on ';vegetable oil';, like what you get out of the used french fry tanks at most fast food restraunts, is just a diesel engine......litterally you filter the oil, and put it in the tank....you get worse fuel mileage tho.
    danget, Ron B beat me to it.....but, yea, he's right.
    You do receive tax breaks, does it offset the cost, I don't know.
    Possibly. You certainly don't have to pay the tax on gas.
    Making chicken breast for lunch, can I put olive oil or vegetable oil on and season it with Montreal Chicken?
    and use a George Forman grill? How would it taste? How would the olive or vegetable oil taste on it? would it make a difference than just with just Montreal Chicken seasonings? As I usually cook it with just the seasonings, it still tastes good, but the seasoning's end up being dried sorta and not juicyMaking chicken breast for lunch, can I put olive oil or vegetable oil on and season it with Montreal Chicken?
    the olive oil is the healthiest choice. and it will be moister that way. what i would do is mix the montreal seasonings with the oil, marinate in that and then brush the rest on as it cooks on the forman grill.Making chicken breast for lunch, can I put olive oil or vegetable oil on and season it with Montreal Chicken?
    My seasonings always ended up being dry and tasteless too. I started putting a little oil or water in a dish with the seasonings and letting it soak for awhile to soften up. Then let the chicken marinate in this for a few minutes and cook. The oil or water doesn't make it taste any different.
    Be careful that you don't overcook the chicken - most chicken breasts take only 3 or 4 minutes (at the most). Take the chicken off the grill, cover it with a bowl or foil and let it rest for another 3 or minutes before cutting. It should be nice and juicy.
    Sure, sounds good.
    Try cutting yoru breast in half across, to make a large, very thin breast. Then season both sides. You won't have to grill it as long to cook it thoroughly and your spices shouldnt' get wonky that way.
    I'd use olive oil, and brush it on. Then, sprinkle on the spices and grill.
    Use olive oil, healthier and better tasting.
    Use the olive oil it will be soo yummy
    It will work the same as far as the cake baking properly, however it may slightly alter the taste. The darker the olive oil, the more noticible the taste will be. You would probably be better off subbing the same amount of melted butter.
    No!!! Use margarine. It has 30% of vegetable oil in Country Crock.
    would not taste good, better to use butter or margarine.
    Can I use extra virgin olive oil instead?I'm baking a cake and have no vegetable oil. Instead can I use...?
    Yes, you absolutely can! I use olive oil repeatedly in recipes that call for vegetable oil. And because you have extra virgin olive oil, it is even better! Olive oil is healthier for you than vegetable oil...you may to consider using this for the majority or your recipes.
    Extra-virgin means that the acidity is less than one per cent, giving it an easy flavor, nothing too strong or acidic.
    HTH! Good luck with your cake!I'm baking a cake and have no vegetable oil. Instead can I use...?
    You can use motor oil if you want; the question is more specifically SHOULD you!? Olive oil might be ok, as it is technically a vegetable oil, but some are more flavorful than others. Try calling the 800 number on the cake box...they LIVE for this stuff!
    No...Olive flavor too strong. Got Apple Sauce? That works ok, but a bit denser. Got any Butter??? Melt butter and use that.
    YES YOU CAN these people are crazy and obviously dont bake every day!
    Definetly use applesauce..it makes it more fluffy and moist..and does not change the flavor!!
    NO, the best substitution is 1 cup applesauce OR 1 cup fruit puree
    No. Olive oil will taint the flavor of your cake. Use butter instead. It'll add a buttery flavor....and a few more fat grams...but it's better than a funny tasting cake...huh?
    I've used butter in place of oil..doesn't help with the fat content though! :)
Triple fudge sounds very good. jim bCan i substitute 1/2 cup of olive oil for 1/2 cup vegetable oil?
    Absolutely, vegetable oil can replace almost any other oil specified in a recipe.
    Olive oil, while good for you and giving a great taste in small doses, can taste overwhelming and bitter if used in making mayonnaise or pesto - I always use a combination of both.
    Go ahead, nothing will go wrong if you make the substitution.
    Yes, you can substitute. I use olive oil for baking all of the time. It may not taste the same, though, as it would with vegetable oil, especially if you are using extra virgin olive oil. Regular olive oil is probably better, if you have that. Canola oil works well with baking.
    It would help to know what it is you are trying to make. If you use extra virgin olive oil it will affect the flavor of what you are cooking as opposed to vegetable oil. If you are frying then the Vegetable oil has a higher smoking point an you would not want to substitute.
    If it is for any kind of baked good, you can substitute the oil with melted butter. Olive oil is good, but not for every type of cooking, such as baking.
    Edit: oh yes, for that you definitely need to use melted butter! One stick of melted butter is equal to 1/2 cup of oil.
    You already have some good answers but the one issue they don't address is if you plan on deep-fat-frying in the oil. If so, olive oil is not good for that because it doesn't have a high burn point.
    It depends on what you are cooking. If it is a desert then I wouldn't recommend it. But if it is vegetable or a casserole then it would probably be okay.
    I often substitute oils when cooking and have substituted olive oil for regular oil and vice a versa. The only thing I found is that olive oil smokes when frying more than vegitable oil does.
    Yes, you can and it will enhance the flavor to what your cooking ... I have done it myself and there is no noticeable difference
    Yes if you like the tastes of Olives if not then use Canola Oil.
    Yes no hesitation none what so ever, You don't have to worry at all.
    Is vegetable cooking oil came from vegatables?
    There is a brand ';Pure vegetable oil';, is it really extracted from vegetablesIs vegetable cooking oil came from vegatables?
    No, vegetable oil doesn't come from vegetables but from oilseed crops, such as sunflower or rapeseed. They use the word 'vegetable' (as in 'animal or vegetable'?) to distinguish from animal fats which used to be used for cooking (lard, butter). Pure sunflower oil is usually sold as 'sunflower oil', so if it is labelled just as 'vegetable oil' then that probably means it is rapeseed oil, which is not so well known but is actually a good oil. Or else, it might be palm oil (very unethical) or else a mixture. It will probably say on the label somewhere if you check.Is vegetable cooking oil came from vegatables?
    No it actually comes from chickens.
    yes but from selected vegetables only
    What could u substitue for vegetable oil...?
    In making a cake. All of ours is gone and we aren't exactly the ace of cakes. =) please and thank youWhat could u substitue for vegetable oil...?
    Any kind of neutral oil you have will work.
    Canola, vegetable, corn, peanut, sunflower, safflower, even the big jugs of processed olive oil, since it doesn't have any flavor either.
    What won't work is the more expensive, flavorful oils, like extra virgin olive, or any of the other nut oils like macadamia and such. The flavor just won't work for you.
    I've heard of using applesauce, but I've never done it myself, so I can't testify for it or against it. You could give it a shot, though.
    I hope this helps. If you don't have any of these on hand, then just take the few minutes to run to the store real quick.What could u substitue for vegetable oil...?
    I know butter would work but not sure how much you would need. i would melt it and put in same volume as called for oil. they are both fats, i think butter would be better any ways.
    for the best and most moist cake ever, use mayonnaise- no you won't taste the mayo..
    if it asks for 1/2 cup of oil, use 1/2 cup plus 2 tbsp
    You can substitute applesauce for oil in baking. Cup for cup. :) Hope this helps.
