Using vegetable oil in baking cakes?

Can I substitute veg oil for butter in a sponge cake? If so, how much would be equivalent to 4oz butter? Would it be a healthier option or am I kidding myself?Using vegetable oil in baking cakes?
You can absolutely make a cake with vegetable oil. All chiffon cakes are made that way. Here's a basic vanilla chiffon: http://www.dianaskitchen.com/page/recipe鈥?/a>

Vegetable oil is a hydrogenated oil and is very unhealthy....But there's nothing wrong in using corn...or sunflower oil or other healthier oils.. As for the amount....Im sorry I don't know...but if you mix in the oil until you get the same crumb consistency then its worth giving it a try....
Your best bet is to use vegetable oil soft margarine ( I never use anything else) You cannot cream liquid oil so you will get a biscuit not a risen sponge.

Yes it is healthier and cheaper.
you are definitely kidding yourself. the whole point of a spongecake is the buttery taste.
No it's healthier, just use half as much butter and replace the other half with oil. This will work better.
The same amount
