Could I substitute vegetable shortening or butter instead of Crisco vegetable oil in this recipe?

I found this recipe on the internet, and want to make it, except I don't have vegetable oil let alone Crisco brand. But I do have vegetable shortening and butter. Would I come out with the same or similar result?

I found your answer at askville.amazon.com:

Crisco is a form of vegetable shortening - it doesn't matter what brand you use. Unfortunately, most vegetable shortenings are made with trans fats and unhealthy omega-6 oils. Butter would be healthier, and taste better. You can also use lard. Many great chefs think lard is the very best shortening for pastry. You do need to be careful to avoid hydrogenated lard, though.
