Burning vegetable oil to use it as paint?

Some guy over at deviant art said he burned vegetable oil to paint his armor and give the ';black/burned rusted'; look it has...I asked him how he did that and he doesn't appear like he's going to answer...so I guess my question is, do you think he burned the oil and applied it just like that? Wouldn't it come off by passing a rag over it?Burning vegetable oil to use it as paint?
One way you can do this is to use an empty tin can of some sort ,put about 1/8 of vegetable oil in it and heat it with a torch underneath the can until it gets blackened and thick . Now as far it rubbing off, yes it would rub off if you take a rag and wipe it . But remember this if you use oil paint and take a rag over the paint the same thing will happen RIGHT it has to dry and that might take a couple of months being it is also an oil. Basically oil has to dry and that takes time.
