I've substituted Canola Oil for Vegetable Oil in brownies but they always seem to come out gooey and not done.?

Is the oil the cause of this or should I just cook them longer? Does the measurement of oil need to change if I substitute the two?I've substituted Canola Oil for Vegetable Oil in brownies but they always seem to come out gooey and not done.?
It should not make any difference....if your oven shelf in the middle of the oven...maybe your oven temperature is off. Just try baking them a little longer OR turn the oven up just a little.I've substituted Canola Oil for Vegetable Oil in brownies but they always seem to come out gooey and not done.?
Limon34 is correct! I too use applesauce in place of the oil and my kids love the brownies, you can't even tell the difference in what they were made of, and they are healthier, think of all that fat your leaving out of the cooking process! Way to go! Report Abuse

It's not the oil. Any cooking oil can be interchanged in recipes without any difference other than the taste if you use olive oil.Your oven temperature may be off and you just need to bake the brownies a little bit longer. Try adding 5 minutes to the cooking time, and test them like you would a cake. Use a toothpick or piece of spaghetti and insert into the center - if it comes out clean or with small crumbs attached, it's done. Many people like gooey brownies
I use butter not oil in mine.... check your recipe, you could have a gooey recipe.

Never fail cake brownies

1/3 cup margarine

3 oz chocolate

Melt together in small sauce pan.

1/4 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup flour

Mix together and add

3 eggs

1 teaspoon vanilla

slowly add the butter and cocoa in.

bake 325 for 30 min in an 8x8 pan

this is an old family recipe. Used from the same book for more than 30 years.

Try it and let me know what you think of them.

canola oil IS vegetable oil. Should not make a bit of difference. Try measuring your baking pan, and checking baking time for that size pan. Also, check your oven temp to be sure it's correct. And, it may be you have a fudgey brownie recipe rather than a cakey brownie recipe.
Try substituting applesauce for oil. Healthier and a more cake-like texture.
